Shimmy School Spooktacular

The Shimmy School Spooktacular on 12th October, at Crookes Social Club, Mulehouse Road, Sheffield, will be our final Hafla before our production in December.

Each year we host one or two haflas to raise money for our chosen charity, however this year is a little different. We have already hosted 2 haflas and 1 day of workshops, which have already raised over £1000 towards Project Aladdin 2019, our belly dance community winter performance. Workshops

Our first workshop will be Sassy Saidi with our very own Natasha Meldrum.

Natasha has been belly dancing since the age of 16 and has since gone on to perform and teach professionally. She has worked for Marella cruises as a belly dance instructor and at Raqs of course in cairo back stage working for some of the biggest names in the belly dance world. Natasha has a talent for quickly learning new knowledge and has an absolute wealth of facts and tips learned from years of study. She has a particular interest in History. She has a distinctive flowing style on stage and is known for being super sassy

In her workshop, Natasha will teach you some of the history of Saidi along with techniques such as dancing with an Assaya, a lightweight stick, usually with a hook on one end. She will also teach some choreography full of attitude and sass to some typical Saidi music.

Our second workshop will be “In the suspense – Horror and suspense fusion” with Kahina Spirit.

We are so very happy to have Kahina Spirit on board for this amazing workshop. It fits in wonderfully with our spooky theme!

Kahina Spirit is a Portuguese bellydancer, teacher and choreographer. She has been dancing for 15 years and started to explore the fusion between metal and bellydance in 2008. Kahina Spirit was the founder of the dark fusion group Ignis Fatuus Luna and performed with Moonspell, Orphaned Land, Albaluna. She has been the main dancer of Myrath for the last couple of years.

In the second workshop Kahina Spirit will teach some combos with strong locks, snakey arms and an amazing horror/suspense fusion choreography to practice.

Performers

We have a long list of performers from all over Sheffield. Including a brand new chilling dance from Shimmy School, the Shimmy Show Performers and solo dances from our own Eleanor Gaywood and Natasha Meldrum.

Tickets

Tickets for the Hafla are £5 if you book in advance, otherwise it will be £7 on the night.

Workshops are £15 each or £30 to do both, which includes entry to the hafla in the evening.
